Research
We are recruiting a diverse group of scientists who seek to leverage a molecular understanding to push the boundaries of what’s possible. We will use the tools of organic chemistry, materials science, and mechanics–as well as our creativity and imagination–to design materials that address some of society’s greatest challenges. What we actually investigate will depend on where the science leads us, so check back frequently to see what we’re up to, but to start we will focus on:
- Taking advantage of (the) force: Polymer mechanochemistry has shown us that force can be leveraged productively. We will design material systems that exhibit new function in response to applied forces.
- Accessing new performance: Commercial materials are often implemented with an engineered purpose or function. Can we leverage chemistry to change a commercial material capabilities and performance, perhaps even in a reversible manner?
- New methods for materials synthesis: The challenges of today and tomorrow will require the design of new materials and new ways to make them. We will develop new methods to access new polymeric materials and structures.
